Evariste Delivers Boots to Bateguedea in Mid-December

Evariste Plegnon, Project Hope and Fairness's associate in Ivory Coast, is shown in the center, clothed in "kita" or royal garb.  He asked the village chief, Mr. Paul Bouabré and the President of the Women Farmers, Madame Juliette Kpokpa to comment about the gift of boots.

Mr. Bouabré:  First, I want to thank Mr. Tom and the members of this organization for the boots.  Really, these boots are a marvelous gift and we are very happy.  However, such a gift always causes jealousies and some farmers feel frustrated.  We would greatly appreciate if you could find a way to distribute boots to all the farmers.  Mr. Tom, you are really a man of your word.  We hope that God will protect the organization.  And we have dressed your servant Evariste in Kita, all this to show that we are very happy.  Mr. Tom, our wish is to see you again in the village so we can give you our blessing.  We also have many rusty tools that are disintegrating;  we hope that you can help us replace them.  In the future, we hope you will send us a "pulverisateur" to save the lives of our cocoa farms, which have aged greatly.  Tom, know that we want to clothe you in the royal garb.  May God Almighty bless you and your organization.  And again, many thanks!

Madame Juliette Kpokpa:  in the name of the women frarmers of Bateguedea, we also want to thank Project Hope and Fairness.  The chief already said everything, but I want M. Tom to know that we have received the boots and we are really proud because it's not easy to acquire these boots.  I want the organization to also consider the surrounding villages as well as the farmers of Bateguedea who didn't receive them.  As a woman, I don't want the men or women farmers in the nearby villages to feel frustrated, because that can cause jealousy.  Tom, we really think of you as a son of the village because what you have done, the joy you have put on the faces of the farmers, no one else in this village has been able to accomplish this.  We want to invite you to a festival of the gifts and to clothe you as a village chief.  Please think about additional boots and about damaged tools that need replacing that the chief already spoke of and don't forget neighboring villages.  May God bless you, Tom, and the members of your organization!

The farmers went to the central radio station in Daloa to tell them about the gifts from "the Americans."  Francois Kpokpa, the secretary to the village chief was interviewed on the radio.  He was so happy that he couldn't control his emotions.
